Aging and the Gifts of Adversity
An Evening with Olivia Hoblitzelle
Author of The Majesty of Your Loving: A Couple’s Journey Through Alzheimer’s
Thursday, October 23, 2008: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Brookline High School, Martin Luther King Room
115 Greenough St.
Brookline, MA
To age consciously, to develop inner strength, to find gifts amidst adversity, and finally to address the great issue of mortality—these are our challenges as elders and caregivers.
This evening, Olivia Hoblitzelle will reflect on the challenging and inspiring journey she made with her husband, Hob. Together, making use of their years as practitioners and teachers of psychology and Buddhist meditation, the Hoblitzelles greeted Alzheimer’s disease consciously and lovingly. Through stories based on their life experience, we will explore sources of inspiration for the later years and how the practice of mindfulness can teach us how to meet whatever life brings with equanimity, insight, and an open heart.
